5G is the 5th generation mobile network building onto previous wireless networks to connect everything together. 5G was built to deliver higher data throughput and can reach speeds of up to 20 Gbps and an average data rate of 100+ Mbps with ultra-low latency and increased reliability.
While 4G LTE only operates up to the 6GHz frequency band, 5G can operate within 30GHz and 300GHz, allowing it to push through larger amounts of data without crowding other frequencies. 5G has a range of 50 to 80 kms from the tower and is actively being deployed in many regions around the globe.

LTE can reach speeds of up to 300 Mbps, with an average speed between 10 and 60 Mbps, which covers approximately 83% of the global population. A single LTE tower can cover between 50 and 150 kms. This makes LTE an extremely popular IoT connectivity solution for a wide range of IoT and M2M deployments.

There are a few factors to consider when deciding which mobile technology is best for your wireless deployment, whether it be for M2M, IoT or corporate wireless connectivity. 5G has extremely high speeds but is still limited in its coverage. 5G connections also need to be closer to the tower. LTE is slower than 5G but, due to its maturity, is available almost everywhere, and devices can connect from further away from the tower.
